Traveling to Other Places

A friend of mine stopped me this week and told me she was thinking of selling her DVC Membership, which does and doesn’t surprise me. It surprises me, because I don’t understand why anyone would give up their DVC. It doesn’t surprise me because when she first bought in, she told me they were doing it to travel to the “other places,” not just to Disney. Since then they have been to Disney World three times and they haven’t been to any other of the destinations that they can go to. It’s funny, because when she and her family bought in and she told me it was to do all this other traveling, I thought “We’ll see.” Because, Disney vacation Club Members have the opportunity to exchange their DVC points for stays at other resorts and vacations around the world.

We haven’t used the exchange system ourselves, but it seems like a neat idea. Disney offers exchange with a few different companies, the biggest being RCI. According to their website, “RCI is a global provider of leisure travel services to businesses and consumers, and the worldwide leader in vacation exchange.” They have “more than 3,700 resorts in 101 countries.” With the Disney Vacation Club, there are 100 resort options worldwide in the nightly stay program and over 550 total Resorts that you can stay in. Places such as The Manhattan Club on 56th Street and 7th Avenue in New York City, and El Cid La Ceiba Beach in Cozumel, Quintana Mexico.

Disney Vacation Club also has Exchanges with the Buena Vista Trading Company. These exchanges are with Club Cordial and Club Intrawest. Club Cordial resorts are located in Austria and Italy, while Club Intrawest offers destinations in Canada, Mexico and the United States. Both of these exchanges and the RCI exchanges are available to any DVC Member.

Members who purchase their DVC Membership directly from Disney have extra perks. They can stay in one of the prestigious resorts and hotels handpicked by Disney Vacation Club for inclusion in the Concierge Collection. They can also enjoy Adventures by Disney Vacations, which are part of the Adventurers Collection. The Concierge Collection includes Loews Regency Hotel in Manhattan, the Royal Garden Hotel in London, The Keystone Resort in Colorado, and the Hotel del Coronado on the beach near San Diego Bay in California. The adventurers By Disney Collection include trips to all the continents except Antarctica and feature things like Hiking and Snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands and Dinner at Knysna Elephant Park where you will eat while you are surrounded by a herd of young and adult elephants!

Another Perk for Disney Vacation Club Members who purchase Directly from Disney, is that they can enjoy the Disney Collection of vacation choices. The Disney Collection allows you to stay at Disney Resorts all over the world; including at the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Hollywood Hotel in Hong Kong and the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta. Another part of the Disney Collection is the Disney Cruise Line. You can exchange your points for a number of cruises offered on the Disney Fleet.

Starting in August of this year, Disney will also have a Vacation Club Resort on Oahu in Hawaii. This resort named Aulani from all accounts will be an amazing addition to the Disney Vacation Club family.

So, for people who like Disney World, but don’t think they will go every year or for the family who likes to go maybe every few years to see what is new, you can buy into the Disney Vacation Club and still benefit from Membership, by using the DVC point exchange system.

Hi, I am looking for some input about buying DVC membership in Hawaii, we went to our meeting and we are
really considering it, I just don’t know anyone who owns a DVC membership and would like to hear input from a current member, I read on the internet that it is almost impossible to book reservation within a year, is that right? also if you are interested I would love a referral so that if we do decide to buy we can make use of the referral awards I understand there are award for the sponsor and the buyer, again I don’t know any members… hope you consider. Thank you!
