Well the podcast awards voting has ended and the results are in. First off, you are all to be commended for taking the time to vote daily. As the results indicate, your voting made a impact, not just on Disney podcasts but on podcasting as a whole.
It was a long Saturday waiting for word from the New Media Expo with the results, but it was worth the wait. For a 6th straight year, WDW Radio and its host Lou Mongello won in the best Travel category. With the hundred plus podcasts devoted to Disney, to win in this category, over such a span of time really says something. And looking at the quality competition in the travel category splitting the votes, this win means even more.
So I wanted to see why Lou Mongello and his Radio show stands out from the pack.I think I found a quote taken from his very own Forums that sums up many peoples thinking on the matter: “we all appreciate his hard work and dedication for bringing the magic and meaning of Disney to us wherever we are located.” To be followed by this quote: “6 years, 6 more reasons why Lou Mongello is the awesome-est person on the planet Earth.” OK let’s not get carried away here. It is just a podcast.

The other win that is of interest to us is in the Best Produced category. Finally, Ricky Brigante of Inside the Magic has won this category! Now this was an exciting surprise to me as it was to others online. But I think it’s a testimony to the strength of the online Disney Community. Of all the podcasts out there, Ricky’s was voted best produced. Now I don’t know if you listen to many other podcasts in other genres, but there are some good ones out there. Some corporate backed with high budgets, and many others by devoted individuals trying to leave their mark. And from that pool Inside the Magic rose to the top. Wow!
Here again, I don’t just want you to take my word for it. Look at this tweet I found congratulating Ricky: “The @InsideTheMagic podcast has consistently been the podcast that I’ve recommended to others as an example of how to put a show together.” Not just a Disney show, any show will definitely be looking to Ricky as a model to follow with this recognition.
So I take off my Mickey Ears and congratulate our Award winning Podcasters Lou and Ricky! Keep up the good work. We will be downloading and singing the praises of these great projects.
