This past December marked the Disney Vacation Club’s 20th Anniversary. This article will highlights the growth of the Disney Vacation Club.

The original DVC resort themed to be an early 20th century beach town welcomed its first members in 1991.

In 1993, accommodations at Disneyland Resorts in California and Paris were added as room options for DVC members.

DVC decided to expand out of Walt Disney World and in 1995 Disney’s Vero Beach Resort opened in Vero Beach, Florida. DVC’s second beach resort followed in 1996 with the opening of Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort in South Carolina.

The BoardWalk Villas also opened in 1996 providing a second Walt Disney World property for DVC members.

DVCMember.com was launched in 1997 to help the growing number of members book resort stays and provided DVC member perk information.  The Disney cruise lines were made an option for point usage this year much to the delight of many DVC members.

The Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge was the third on-site property to open to DVC members in year 2000.  DVC had grown in its first 10 years to offer members three on-site resorts and two beach resorts along with access to the Disney Cruise Line.

In 2004, phase 1 of DVC’s largest resort was opened, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa.  It was themed after Saratoga Springs, New York and offered DVC member fitness and spa discounts.  Phases 2, 3 and 4 of the resort were completed in 2009 offering DVC accommodations from studio rooms to deluxe TreeHouse Villas that sleep 12.

Adventurers by Disney trips were made available to DVC members as a point usage option in 2006 expanding DVC worldwide.

In 2009 DVC expanded to 10 total resorts with the addition of Disney’s Kidani Villas at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and the first DVC West coast property, The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa.

Last year, DVC added its 11th property the Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas in Ko Olina, Hawaii.  This is DVC’s third beach resort property.  A new logo was also introduced for DVC

showing it to be a global program and not just timeshares at Walt Disney World.

During the past 20 years, Disney’s Vacation Club has been honored as Number 1 among timeshare industry accommodation companies and as with an ACE Employer Award for being an outstanding place to work.

Congratulations Disney Vacation Club for 20 exciting and accommodating years.
