A few weeks back I took you through the “What if’s of Epcot.” This is a series designed to help you navigate through the parks when things happen that may not have been in your plan such as, heat, rain ect…. But do not fear..there is always a way around the things that you wish would not happen on your magical Walt Disney World adventure.
Magic Kingdom is jam-packed with attractions and shops…one can very easily avoid the summer heat by walking through stores rather than walking outside or on walkways. Be sure to schedule time to take a splash on Splash Mountain…this attraction is sure to cool you off. If you are thinking about a more lowkey way to cool off, head on over to Exposition Hall, which has a little theater that shows classic Disney cartoons.
All in all…Magic Kingdom is one of the best places to be on a hot day because many of the attractions are indoors and allow for a nice place to cool off. Now the crowds on a hot day are another story. :0)
What if it rains?
Just like the heat, there are a lot of places to doge the rain at Magic Kingdom. The main places to wait out the rain would be stores or counter service restaurants. But keep in mind that many people will be doing this as well. If you are brave you can knock out a few attractions by braving the rain. What do I mean? Put on that poncho and continue your day!! Let me insert a little tip while I just mentioned ponchos, bring your own from home. While we all love a good Mickey poncho..they will cost you double what you can get them for at home.
Keep in mind, Big Thunder Mountain Railway closed when it rains and street parades, street parties, outdoor performances and fireworks can all get canceled when it rains.
The following attractions close when there is lightning:
- Astro Orbiter
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- Jungle Cruise
- Liberty Square Riverboat
- Magic Carpets of Aladdin
- Main Street Vehicles
- Splash Mountain
- Swiss Family Treehouse
- Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
- Tom Sawyer Island
- Walt Disney Railway
If you want more information about the closing of an attraction or the parades and show schedules see the closest Cast Member as they can give you the most current information.
