Hello WDW Fan Zone readers!

I wanted to share a fun fact I learned a few years ago while working at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry.

I found out that Walt had visited Chicago in 1948 to attend the Chicago Railroad Fair and to study the Museum’s exhibits in preparation for the construction of Disneyland.  Ward Kimball also accompanied Walt on this trip. During their visit, they were able to see all of the different trains and equipment on display at the fair, and also were allowed to operate some of the steam trains! The Museum of Science and Industry sponsored this event that celebrated 100 years of railroading!

Once Walt and Ward returned to LA, he issued a memo with his plans for a “Mickey Mouse Park“, which later would be renamed Disneyland! Walt also created his Carolwood Pacific Railroad in his backyard and the famous Lilly Belle engine!

When I learned that Walt Disney had once visited the Museum that was my home for 7 years, I was in Disney geek heaven! Just like the feeling when you walk in the shadow of Sleeping Beauty Castle and you can feel Walt’s presence, I felt that same way for a while!

I have more Chicago/Walt connections that I will be sharing in the upcoming months that I am even excited to learn more about!! Be sure to check back soon!!
