I recently had the most awesome weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Yes, it has so many great things to boast about IE – Tower of Terror & Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, two of my favorites but, during MAY and JUNE it’s Star Wars Weekends. Now, if you been there before you know how exciting it is, if not you should really put it on your Disney Bucket List.
These are just some of the exciting things to do there:
1. Kids under 12 can hone their lightsaber skills and prepare to do battle with Darth Vader himself at the Jedi Training Academy. And in the Padawan Mind Challenge, they can test their wits before the Jedi Council. we have done this many times and I love the way Darth Vader interacts with the kids just like he would in the movie. very intimidating and scary as you would expect him to be.
2. Ride the New Star Tours Ride ~ Newly updated You can Blast into the universe of Star Wars like never before—in 3D! Star Tours—The Adventures Continue takes Jedi from Tatooine to Coruscant and beyond. With several possible missions, you never know where the Force may take you. I really like the ride but it can make you a little motion sick, I found the twists and turns of the ride to be more exciting this time and the different stories make it different every time.
3. Get celebrity Autographs. This time is was a lot of characters from the Clone Wars, the cartoon series, which we are big fans of.
My favorite part aside from riding the Star Tours, seeing the voices behind some of my favorite characters riding along in the parade and watching my son in the Jedi Academy was awesome. And the icing on the cake was the Merchandise and this year Disney has outdone themselves..
A new area was opened up adjacent to the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster where even the most dedicated Star Wars Fan would be jealous. The name is take on the character Darth Maul from Episode 1. This store/giant football field tent was called DARTH MALL and it was like a mall.
The merchandise ranged from toys, figures, actual character costumes, art, t-shirts, pins, plush, food (R2D2 shaped buckets filled with popcorn and Darth Vader cupcakes)
And Star Wars Vinylmations! Cases of them piled high to the sky, I have been trying for months to find them with no luck until then.
I was thrilled to see all this Star Wars Merchandise, truly it was a lot to choose from but it was great to finally have so many choices. Tatooine Traders is great but way to small. Although they do now offer the Droid Factory to build your own Droid, very cool indeed. As a family we always try to get to it every May to be part of the Force and once you go you’ll be hooked too..
