Whispering Canyon Cafe: A New Take on an Old Favorite

I’ve previously written about my love of dinner at Whispering Canyon Café and just recently, I had the chance to experience the breakfast offerings.  Let me tell you, it is delicious! After I ran the Royal Family 5K during Disney’s Princess Half Marathon weekend this past February, my group headed over to Whispering Canyon for some post 5K/pre half marathon carb-loading.

Whispering Canyon Café is located in the lobby of Wilderness Lodge and always provides for a rowdy and entertaining dining experience that’s difficult to top! The atmosphere is straight out of the Old West and there’s fun to be had everywhere you turn. From pony rides for the kiddos, “jail” for guests who misbehave and a table full of ketchup bottles, you won’t be disappointed with the atmosphere.

There were eight people in my dining party and most of them ordered the all you care to enjoy Canyon Skillet served family style. The skillet is loaded with scrambled eggs, roasted red potatoes, bacon, sausage, Mickey shaped waffles, buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy for $16.49 per person. There was never a shortage of food at the table and the cast member was always quick to replenish the skillet when it started to run low.

I opted for the Egg White Omelet with spinach, goat cheese and chipotle pico served with fresh fruit and a biscuit for $11.99. I ordered the pico on the side and I have to say, this omelet was probably the best I have ever tasted.  The goat cheese gave just the right amount of tanginess to compliment the taste of the spinach and egg whites. I also substituted the fresh fruit for the roasted red potatoes, which the cast member had no problem doing (if not for the impending race, I would have definitely stuck with the fruit!). The only negative thing I have to say about the food is that a sausage free gravy isn’t offered for vegetarians or people who simply don’t like sausage. That was somewhat disappointing to someone like me who loves biscuits and gravy and was definitely looking to carb-load before the big race.

As usual, my dining experience at Whispering Canyon Café was fantastic and I will definitely be having breakfast there again. If fact, we already have reservations for the morning of the Disney Happy Haunted 5K in September!
