You Say It’s Your Birthday

August is a “birthday month” in our family and what better way to celebrate the day than at Walt Disney World?  Here are some ideas.

When booking your WDW vacation, let the travel agent or Disney CM know about the Birthday, the name and the age.  And let your resort know when you check-in.  Some resorts will surprise the birthday person.  Also, contact the front desk just before the special day and request a special birthday phone call from a Disney Character.

Let the celebrator choose the Park you’ll visit on their special day.  It’s always a great feeling to spend your Birthday in your favourite Park.

Some say it’s cliché, but start the day by getting the Birthday boy or girl a ‘Happy Birthday’ button.  You can pick these up at your Resort check-in counter and at any Guest Services office and they’ll add the name for you.  Make sure to get some “I’m Celebrating” buttons for everyone else in your party too.  And have the birthday person carries something for autographs as any characters will give special birthday wishes with their autographs.  Wearing this button will guarantee a special day with all of the Happy Birthday greetings you’ll receive as well as special moments you may experience from CMs.

If touring World Showcase at Epcot, bring along a signature book and when asking CMs in each country to sign, make sure they know about the birthday.  Then you’ll have birthday wishes from all of the countries in the many varied languages.

Let the celebrator choose a special dining experience for their day.  This can be a character meal (Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s and the Crystal Palace are our family’s favourites), a meal at a new restaurant or one at an old favourite.  When making the ADR online or on phone, make sure that the birthday info is entered into the ADR and this will make the meal even more special.  Make sure the server at any sit-down restaurant knows about the birthday and the birthday person will get a free birthday cupcake.  You can order a 6” ‘Celebrate Today! Cake’ at any sit-down restaurant without any special pre-planning but you can also pre-order a ‘Mickey Mouse Cake’ or a customized ‘Specialty Cake’ in a variety of cakes and shapes by ordering at least 48 hours in advance.  You can call (407) 827-2253 to order any cake in advance.

Buy the birthday boy/girl a Happy Birthday Ear Hat, a Birthday Cake Hat or even a crystal tiara to wear on their special day.

The Birthday Ears and Birthday Cake hats are available everywhere that hats are sold.  The tiaras are available at the ‘La Princesa de Cristal’ locations at Epcot (in Mexico) and the Magic Kingdom (Caribbean Plaza outside of Pirates of the Caribbean).

In-Room Birthday Celebrations are available in your Disney Resort room.  You can have it all delivered, from balloons to gifts and more.  These are available from Disney Floral & Gifts; they can be reached at 407-939-4438 or online at www.disneyflorist.com.

You can have a Birthday Party for your child and guests at either Goofy’s Candy Company at Downtown Disney (Goofy Party Central) or at the Neverland Club at the Polynesian Resort (Neverland Club Birthday Party).  And you can celebrate with a Fireworks Cruise for either Epcot’s Illuminations or the Magic Kingdom’s Wishes.  Reservations can be made by calling 407-939-7529.  Prices vary by cruise type.  For more info you can visit disneyworld.disney.go.com/tours-and-experiences/specialty-cruises/.

All of these are special, ways to celebrate the special day, and a day spent with Family and Friends at WDW is sure to be a memory the birthday boy or girl (of all ages) will always cherish.
