Hello Everyone.
This coming month marks a very special event in the Disney Community, and no I don’t mean the Food & Wine Festival. Although that is an event looked forward to by most, I’m talking about the 30th Anniversary of Epcot. Epcot is my favorite park and I am so excited that I will be there on October 1st to celebrate the 30th Anniversary. I hope to see many of my Disney friends down there on the day.
Now for those of you that don’t know or are new to this segment, welcome to something I call “Tell No Lies”. This “Tell No Lies” will probably cause a stir with most of you and will have 99.9% of you yelling “THIS PERSON CALLS THEMSELVES A DISNEY FAN?!” But we all have things we have not done at Walt Disney World, and this I can honestly say is one I am ashamed of.
On October 1st, 1982 Epcot Center opened to the general public with a theme park celebrating international culture and technological innovation. The opening day attractions were
- Spaceship Earth
- Universe Of Energy
- World Of Motion
- Journey Into Imagination
- The Land
- Communicore
- 9 Of the 11 World Showcase Countries
I was born on August 6th, 1986 and my first trip to Epcot was in 1993. I have visited all of these opening day attractions apart from one. Luckily this attraction remains there to this very day for me to ride this coming October 1st.
Living With The Land is that attraction.
I know, I’m a bad person. Every time I visit Epcot it’s a mad dash to the Land Pavilion, sadly not for Living With The Land but for Soarin’. I then get out of the pavilion as quickly as possible to avoid the hordes of humans. This means that alot of the time the rest of the Land Pavilion gets neglected by myself and probably most guests.
Living With The Land is a slow moving boat ride that focuses on agriculture. Guests ride through greenhouses and show scenes that show where we get our food. You are taken through various climatic zones including rain-forests, deserts and prairies and taken through to the greenhouses to see concepts for the farm of the future. Many vegetables served at the Garden Grill restaurant are grown in Epcot’s greenhouse.
So what are my reasons for never taking a trip on Living With The Land? I don’t even know myself to be honest. But one thing is for sure, this October 1st I will take that boat journey and ride on one of the last opening day attractions still available to ride at Epcot.
The question is Who is with me?
Follow me on twitter @detailsofdisney and for those at WDW between September 26th – October 9th, I hope to see you around!

Sorry you missed out on a fan favorite of mine as well as many others i’m sure. I remember fondly the old song that accompanied the ride.
“Listen to the land” ! Sure wish i was there to be a part of history for the 30th.My first visit to Epcot was in 1987. ♫”just make believe…you’re a tiny little seed”♫
Callum, I was lucky enough to ride Living with the Land back when it had live tour guides. I confess that I have not been back since it became automated!
