October Is Indeed Epic

Hello Everyone!!

I am currently sitting here in my room at Saratoga Springs thinking about the past week or so that I’ve had on vacation. I can truly say if you are wondering what time of year to come to Walt Disney World please pick October.

Yes this October has had alot of rain and has been mostly cloudy, but the experiences outweigh those negatives.

First up Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

I know Mickey’s Not So Scary starts in early September, but I just don’t feel Hallo-weeny in September. There’s nothing better than seeing the Magic Kingdom all decked out in orange with pumpkins everywhere. The Boo To You Parade and Hallowishes are well worth the admission price alone. You also get to have fun going to the various candy stops around the Magic Kingdom and get to see the characters all dressed up in costumes. Plus the wait times for rides are very low, who wouldn’t want to do the Haunted Mansion back to back?

Next comes the International Food And Wine Festival

Yes my foodie friends this is what most of us look forward to. Epcot’s Food And Wine Festival is a wonderful event where you can try food and wine from around the world. I managed the fateful task of visiting all 29 booths in one day. This was a very hard task which required a break in the middle but it was well worth it. The event also has seminars and demonstrations from chefs, some you have to pay for but there are some free ones. Food And Wine also brings us the Eat To The Beat concerts which feature  a wide selection of artists like Starship, Boyz II Men and Hanson.

Don’t forget to pick up a Passport which you can get stamped at each booth showing your visit to the country.

Now the next event is specific to this October.

Epcot 30

Epcot celebrated its 30th birthday this October 1st with a bang. Everyone in the Disney community was there to enjoy the festivities that Disney had put on for us. The day started with giving us a badge and special map for the day, this was followed by a very long line for limited edition merchandise from Mouse Gear. Oh and yes my friends I did indeed ride Living With The Land and it was great!!

The afternoon brought us some presentations.

The first was Designing the Future with various Imagineers involved in building Epcot. At 3pm the ceremony took place at America Gardens Theatre featuring songs by Mariachi Cobre and Voices Of Liberty. There was also speeches by Epcot Vice President Erin Youngs, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney World Jim MacPhee and President of theme park operations Meg Crofton.

The second presentation of the day was one I was looking forward to as it was a full hour and a half with Disney legend Marty Sklar. This presentation was amazing, with inside stories on Walt Disney, the creating of Epcot and concepts for what they had planned for Epcot but hadn’t happened. Marty was a delight to listen to and wish the presentation could have been longer.

To round off the day a special Illuminations lit up the sky with a full 5 minute firework finale. It was a great day barring the minor rain during the afternoon.

I hope you all think about trying to go down in October, it is a wonderful time to visit the World!
