The 21st Century Begins…

Monday October 1, 1982…

…30 years ago on this date, my 2nd favorite theme park opened… EPCOT CENTER!!

Happy 30th Anniversary Epcot!

I enjoyed spending this past weekend following along on Twitter and Facebook with so many of my Disney friends who were down at Walt Disney World celebrating! I had planned to go down for the 30th anniversary also, but then real life happened and I had to cancel my plans. I was bummed, but knew that thanks to this great social media and technology we have now, that I could instantly know what was going on, who was where, and see amazing pictures and videos from the Parks! I want to say a huge “THANK YOU” to all  my friends who I was able to live vicariously through the past 4 days!

I will definitely be in attendance though for the 35th anniversary! I cannot miss out on any more EPIC celebrations!!

It made me smile to think that this theme park, that has always been about future and technology and connecting the world, had come full circle in 30 years and now what once was featured in the ending of Spaceship Earth of video conferencing- now happens via Ustream, Skype and Twitter!!

To all who come to this place of joy, hope and friendship—welcome. EPCOT is inspired by Walt Disney’s creative vision. Here, human achievements are celebrated through imagination, wonders of enterprise and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all. May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire and above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man’s ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere in the world.
