Run Disney And #Run3rd: A Great Combo For Making Dreams Come True

I can run 10 miles, and still be standing. For me-this is amazing. Back in July I could barely run a block without feeling like I might keel over. My weight was higher than it had ever been. I needed something to motivate me to lose weight, and start getting in shape.

I knew that Disney had a site called runDisney where they listed all their running events. I went to the site to just look at the upcoming races. When I saw that Disney’s Princess Half Marathon fell during the time I would be visiting with my family I decided then and there to sign up. I registered, and then told my family I was going to train for a 1/2 marathon.

Back in July when I made this decision pretty fast, and pretty much without giving it much thought, I had no idea what I was getting into. I knew nothing about running and/or the running community. In fact I was pretty intimidated. I figured no one would take me seriously.

Deciding to sign up for the Princess Half Marathon was one of the best decisions I ever made in terms of starting to get myself into shape, beginning to lose weight, and most importantly believing in myself.

Throughout the past couple of months I have joined a few groups on Facebook with other Princesses and Princes who are preparing for the Disney Princess Half Marathon, as well as other races. I was hesitant to join at first-I did not know if anyone would take me seriously. I am glad I joined- I have found the most supportive group of people, as well as Disney lovers like me! These are people who come from all different walks in life: young, old, super fit, getting fit, every possible occupation you can think of, married, single, parents, grandparents, and on and on. These groups, along with the motivational updates from runDisney have made me believe in myself, that I can do this, that I am strong, and I am a runner.

Along my journey I also came across something called #run3rd. #run3rd is a movement that was started by the actor Sean Astin in a tweet. One tweet has become a movement. In a nutshell #run3rd makes sense of a runner’s journey.

  1. Run for yourself
  2. Run for your family
  3. Run on behalf of causes, ideas and people’s loved ones.

What better place to #run3rd than a Disney race. While Sean Astin runs many races-he recently ran the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in Disneyland, and he will be running the Disney’s Princess Half Marathon. On Sunday, Feb, 24th I will be running for myself, for my family, and for everyone who needs inspiration to believe in themselves.

Note: Sean Astin has trademarked “run3rd” and is filing for registered trademark to prevent it from being used for profit. The above artistic rendering was created by Tony Conticello, for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon, and was donated to Sean Astin for use in #Run3rd.

As you read this I am just about to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon. It has been an incredible journey so far, and I am looking forward to my first Disney race, as well as many more. I hope you will join me, and discover the magic of runDisney!
