Hello my friends!
We have an extra special bonus feature for you today! WDW Fan Zone was asked to review some AWESOME new merchandise available from Hasbro!
The Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants premiered on Friday July 31st to overwhelming success! This highly anticipated DCOM was the summer movie event everyone was talking about! Just before the release, new merchandise began to arrive in stores, as a tie in to the movie! Some of this merchandise included some amazing dolls by Hasbro of the main characters of the movie. Be sure to also pick up a copy of Isle of the Lost to learn all about the characters and how they arrived at Auradon Prep!
Princess Kayla and I received a package last week that included a Descendants 2-pack of Ben and Mal and an Auradon Kids Signature Outfit doll of Jane.
I asked Princess Kayla for her thoughts on the packaging, the dolls, and how it was to play with them! She was happy to share her responses!
-Tell me, Princess Kayla, what is your first impression of the dolls and packages?:
- “I like the package its really cute, it’s neat. I like the picture on the back because some people don’t know what they look like in real life. I like everything inside the box. I think it looks like Jane without the headband.”
-Jane also comes with a bracelet that you can put on, but we didn’t like the bracelet because it’s hard to figure out how to get it on and then it keeps falling off on the ground. There’s a small book that doesn’t have a way to be held, not sure what it does in the movie. I believe it’s supposed to be a charm.
Mal and Ben dolls
- “Same as the other box. I like Mal, her dress and her shoes, she looks way cute. Her tights are cool and pretty, her shoes are cute. She is pretty.”
- Ben, he’s so-so, his crown doesn’t look handsome.”
-The Ben and Mal dolls come together as a two-pack. I noticed they’re holding hands inside the box. I thought this was a small but sweet touch. Ben comes with a rose and a crown that can be removed. Mal has a dress and shoes. Her shoes were a little hard to put on though, as you had to really push them on.
-On the side of each character’s box there are designs to match the characters. Apples, hearts, crowns, ect. There is a large color picture of the character featured on the back. The language on the back of the box that explains about the characters is translated into English, French and Spanish.
Princess Kayla wanted to say a little more about the dolls.
- “The Jane doll has cute hair and its soft. Her hand moves, you can pose different ways. It’s easier to move her arms and legs compared to other dolls I have. I like her hair style, dress and shoes she’s nice and intelligent.
- Ben is handsome. For Mal, not me. He has a nice rose. Funny his clothes remind you of the Beast’s formal tux from Beauty and the Beast.
- The dolls have a good resemblance of the characters they portray. The dolls are very soft and flexible.”
-As a mom, in my opinion, these dolls are some of the best that we have played with as they seem to be very durable. Kayla is 8 years old and she played with them one night for about 20 minutes and another couple days on and off again. They were very easy to play with. After watching the DCOM we were able to re-enact some of the scenes. Compared to other dolls, such as Barbie or Monster High, which sometimes have hands or legs that come loose easily, these dolls did not come apart with play.
-Some negative aspects of the dolls: the girls’ hair is in a nice style but it seems to come apart easily if you tried to put the crown in it or try to move it around. The shoes are difficult to put in if they come off.
Kayla says her overall opinion of the dolls is that they are FUN and AWESOME.
I also asked Princess Kayla if she was excited about the upcoming DCOM and she said “Yes, I can name all of the characters…Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay and I like Cruella De Vil, Jafar, Evil Queen, and Maleficent and I want to see how their kids are.”
