On this 60th Anniversary of Disneyland, the Walt Disney Archives presented an outstanding exhibit celebrating the history of Disneyland, the park that Walt Disney held so dear to his heart, at the 2015 D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. During our last meeting, we looked at pictures from Disneyland’s planning, opening day, lands, attractions, and more. For this half of the scrapbook, get ready for more Disneyland fun, including my own exhibit surprise. Let’s jump right into it.

And the Surprise
After having spent a few hours in the exhibit, my eyes and brain were getting a little fuzzy. While I had been in the exhibit, I witnessed an autograph session being held across the way. It was crushing that I had missed my opportunity to meet this person. As I was checking out Mickey Mouse’s costumes in the exhibit, fate intervened. The man who had been having the autograph session minutes earlier had stepped into the exhibit (via a D23 host) a few feet from where I stood. The man was none other than Bret Iwan, the voice of Mickey Mouse. Of course, I could not help myself, but to ask for a picture. He was extremely gracious and even offered several different angles to get the right lighting. I have heard Bret on a podcast talking about how serendipity landed him one of the most coveted voice-acting gigs on the planet. Having my picture taken with him by Mickey Mouse’s clothes was pretty lucky for me as well.

Disneyland Tour Guides
The Disneyland Tour Guide costume will always have a special place in my heart. After months of trying to replicate it, my dream of being a tour guide did finally come true at this year’s D23 Expo. The costume was so successful that Julie Reihm Casaletto herself thought I was her guide to the Disney Legend’s luncheon. Many current-day tour guides asked for my picture that day, which was truly the highest compliment.
With 2015 Disneyland Ambassador Allie Kawamoto and Disney Legend Julie Reihm Casaletto. Julie was a tour guide at Disneyland in the early 1960s and served as the first Disneyland Ambassador in 1965. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Disney Ambassador program.
Thank you for letting me be your guide through “Disneyland the Exhibit.” It has been an honor and a pleasure to show you pictures from 60 magical years of Disneyland.
Special thanks to my mother for making my tour guide skirt and vest. I could not have done it without you. Also, thanks to Michael, Elizabeth, Wilson, and Mary for living through months of my daily “plaid problems.” And finally, thanks to my “Tour Guide Assistant” Michael (check is in the mail).
