Character Dining- Not Just for the Kids

On our most recent trip to Walt Disney World we dined at several “character meals.” With two younger ones in tow, we thought it was the best way for them to get more interactions with Mickey and friends while we were on vacation. Are character meals just for the kids though? In my opinion, no, there are plenty of options for meals without characters when it’s just the adults but there is nothing wrong with going to a character meal when the kids aren’t along for the ride. These are some of my recommendations character dining restaurants (please remember characters are subject to change):

  • 1900 Park Fare– located in the Grand Floridian, these buffet offers breakfast and dinner. I’ve spent time with Alice, Mary Poppins and the Mad Hatter while dining here. The food is wonderful (try the strawberry soup) and the company includes Disney friends you don’t see often.
  • ‘Ohana– ‘Ohana means family and that’s exactly how you will enjoy breakfast as a family. Sitting at one large table sharing breakfast favorites such as eggs, bacon and waffles family-style. Although dinner is not a character meal, breakfast is a character meal with Lilo, Stitch and some other friends.

  • Cinderella’s Royal Table– would you love to have a meal in Cinderella’s Castle? Here is your opportunity to. While dining with Cinderella and her princess friends, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Make sure you make a reservation for the Royal Table it books quickly.

  • Chef Mickey’s– if you want to dine with the “classic” characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, etc. then this is the place to do it. Right in the center of the Contemporary, Chef Mickey’s provides a high-energy fun-filled American meal. The buffet provides something for everyone, I prefer the breakfast over dinner.

Important things to remember about character dining: bring you camera/autograph books, allow your children to dress up or show off your favorite Disney gear as an adult as well, and don’t be afraid to have a conversation with some of the characters.

Be a kid, enjoy a character breakfast/dinner whether you have little ones with you or not.
