1st Annual “EPCOT International Festival of the Arts”

Hurry up and get to EPCOT before you miss the opportunity. The International Festival of the Arts has a short run from Jan. 13 through Feb 20, 2017. At this point there’s only 2 weeks left. It’s the inaugural year for this event that I personally hope lasts as long as the Food & Wine Festival will. I must admit, it’s a little sparse with the Art, but I tried my best to take advantage of what was offered. This is held only on Friday through Monday.

Most of the Live Art is located at the World Showcase, but I did head over to the Odyssey Festival Showplace to find out some information about the events. I got there at an opportune moment as  I was lucky to get tickets to a lecture hosted by local photographer Simone Amaduzzi who is originally from Bolognia, Italy. Simone described how to take the perfect photo using patience, skills and a lot of luck. It was thrilling to see his wildlife photos and understand how long it takes to get the perfect shot.  I suggest going to the Odyssey Festival Showplace as your first stop to grab some tickets.

Mary Blair

After the lecture I strolled around the artwork Disney artists Mary Blair of Peter Pan, Three Caballeros and Cinderella Fame and Herb Ryan who created conceptual drawings for EPCOT Center. The artwork is set in a very bright location so you can see a lot of the detail work that makes it so unique.

Don “Ducky” Williams

World Showcase hosts a lot of booths manned by actual artists. Each artist presents his original art, talks to you about it and offers prints for sale. Some artists are working on new art while they are hosting their masterpieces. I even met my favorite Disney Artist, Don Ducky Williams who painted the passholder lithographs from the Flower and Garden show.

You can also immerse yourself in art by posing as a extra in the worlds most famous photos, like the “Mona Lisa” or “Washington Crossing the Delaware”. This was a lot of fun, but the lines can get long on certain days.

To top it off, there’s a wonderful Disney on Broadway Concert Series which showcases many of Disney’s favorite tunes from Aladdin, Newsies, Beauty and the Beast and more.

Living in Orlando gives me the opportunity to visit as often as I want.
