“Around here we don’t look backwards for very long…we keep moving forward, opening up new doors, and doing new things because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths” ~ Walt Disney
Recently I was reviewing a list of all the recent and upcoming changes happening at Walt Disney World. And it got me thinking, are there too many changes happening at once? All four parks are being affected by a recent or upcoming change! Some have been a long time coming, some more recent announcements, but all changing the landscape of Walt Disney World as we know it today.
I’m extremely nostalgic when it comes to WDW, having visited for the first time in 1984. I’ve seen a lot of change happen at my beloved “home” in my 40 years; we have all witnessed it and experienced together. And with the departure of each event, firework show, parade, attraction, stage show, etc., we’ve rarely been disappointed with the replacement. But there is something to be said for the way things were/are, and the emotional connection and attachment we have to them. It’s not always easy to let go of something that holds so many cherished memories.
Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I feel like changes today are happening at a rapid pace. In today’s world, we have become accustomed to instant satisfaction. And even though these changes take time to implement, Disney does need to keep up with the ever changing desires of society and competition, all while maintaining a steady flow of visitors coming to the parks. There is a little piece of me that fears with each abrupt (or not so abrupt) change and removal of some classics, could Walt’s spirit and magic be lost?
I know in my heart that Disney will never let us down and I’m actually very excited for what’s in store, but I do think it’s a lot to accept in a short period of time. So, I’ll leave you with a question, do you think there is too much change happening at once? How much is too much? Feel free to comment below!
