In another installment of my series where I talk about the attractions and things to do in each park that don’t involve rides, we will be visiting Hollywood Studios. This is one of the hardest parks to navigate right now because of all the construction. Starting next year, with the opening of Toy Story Land, and then Star Wars Land in 2019, that will mean huge changes.
But currently there still is plenty to do at Hollywood Studios. This park is my relaxing day! I love to soak in the sounds and sights of all that is Hollywood Studios.
As you enter the park, you are greeted with a palm tree lined street reminiscent of a 1930’s era. The “businesses” along that main corridor have a Art Deco facade, and the stores are filled with Disneyfied Hollywood – think Star Wars, fancy Disney, and Planet Hollywood. So besides the awesome window shopping, what else is there to do in Hollywood Studios that doesn’t involve rides?
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST – LIVE ON STAGE
This is by far my favorite attraction. My youngest son loves Beauty and the Beast, and this stage show is a must do. This is a “mini-play” of the Beauty and the Beast movie. It features all your favorite characters – Beast, Belle, Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts and Chip. The show lasts approximately 30 mins.
DISNEY JUNIOR – LIVE ON STAGE!
This Live show features characters from the Disney Channel, and kids (and kids at heart) can sing and clap along with the show. You are seated on the floor, so this may not be for everyone. Over the years, the characters have changed. Current characters can include Doc McStuffins, Princess Sofia, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, and Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER: A FROZEN SING-ALONG CELEBRATION
Maybe you are tired of all things Frozen, but I guarantee you will still love this show. This show features two royal historians who tell the story of Anna,Elsa and Arendelle. With a cast that may ad-lib from time to time, this show keeps you in stitches as even the royal historians are known to laugh at their own jokes!
INDIANA JONES EPIC STUNT SPECTACULAR!
Another live stage show featuring Stunt Double “Indiana Jones.” Professional stunt show features a behind-the-scenes look at how those stunts are really performed.
Great Screen show featuring the loveable Muppets. Join Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppets for a entertaining theater show in 3D.
VOYAGE OF THE LITTLE MERMAID
This live stage show recounts the story of The Little Mermaid with clips from the movie. Great theater to relax in the middle of the afternoon on a hot day. Be prepared for bubbles and rain!
STAR WARS LAUNCH BAY THEATER
Watch a behind the scenes video on how things are done, and the future of the Star Wars movies.
STAR WARS LAUNCH BAY
See props from the movies, meet favorite characters such as Chewbacca and Kylo Ren, “run into Storm Troppers” and even trade with Jawas. Make sure to check out the store at the end of the Launch Bay. There you can buy outfits from characters such as Darth Vader and Han Solo.
WALT DISNEY: ONE MAN’S DREAM
This walk-through exhibit takes you through a journey of Walt Disney through the years. From his “office” to the development of his theme parks. This ever changing exhibit features new developments too. At the end of the journey, you are treated to a film tribute with Walt’s own words. Many times this film is suspended for a sneak peek of an upcoming movie.
As of this writing, this attraction is still open.
CITIZENS OF HOLLYWOOD
These street performers put on shows shows during the day. They usually are performing along Sunset or Hollywood Boulevard, but have been known to show up inside The Hollywood Brown Derby too. And don’t be surprised if you get pulled into the show too!
This nighttime show features villains, Disney heroes and princesses. It is full of pyrotechnics, laser lights, dancing water, and more, featuring Sorcerer Mickey.
MARCH OF THE FIRST ORDER
I hate this more than anything in any Disney parks, but it is a crowd favorite. Captain Phasma leads her Stormtroopers up Hollywood Boulevard to the Center Stage where they put on a show. As they are marching, I cannot help but feel like I am in a New World Nazi Germany!
CHARACTER MEET AND GREETS:
Meet characters at specially designated spots. Olaf, the gang from Toy Story, Star Wars characters, Cars, Mickey and Minnie, and more! My favorite character interactions are with the Green Army Men! They are entertaining and playful!
DINING – 50’S PRIMETIME CAFE and SCI-FI DRIVE-IN
These two dining establishments belong in a class of their own. They are both entertainment while you dine. Both are entertaining, the theming is spot-on, and both offer great food!
Thanks for reading along on my journey through the parks. Next month I will tackle things to do at Disney Springs.
